With the Los Angeles Lakers missing out on the playoffs, many are speculating what the franchise will do to get back to title contention. One team to keep an eye on is the New York Knicks, as they could make some big moves in the 2022 NBA offseason. They haven't had the best point guard play this year, which is why some believe Russell Westbrook could bounce back in New York.
Even so, according to Bleacher Report, the Knicks, “don't view Westbrook as a target.” Russell Westbrook went from being one of the best players in the league to a liability in just one season. New York hopes to improve after missing out on the playoffs as well. However, the front office doesn't believe that Westbrook will get them over the hump.
The Knicks have a nice base roster but lack star power for now. Although Russell Westbrook is a popular name, he likely would not help the situation. New York needs consistency from their superstars, as they have a roster full of young talent still developing in the league.
Considering the Knicks have no interest in acquiring Westbrook, the Lakers might find themselves in a world of hurt in the upcoming offseason. As of right now, New York is finally trending up while Los Angeles is going in the opposite direction.
We'll see how it all plays out. The Knicks need a competent point guard and could either trade for a superstar, sign a free agent, or make a splash pick in the NBA Draft. One thing is for sure, New York is not interested in trading for Russell Westbrook.
