The huge news in Los Angeles basketball of late was the renaming of the beloved Staples Center. After 22 years of carrying that same name, it was announced that the stadium would now be called the Crypto.com Arena.

The news was met with a ton of apprehension, and understandably so. The Staples Center name has grown synonymous with the Lakers and Clippers teams that have created a handful of memories within its friendly confines.

But perhaps the name change angered the basketball gods as well, given that the Lakers and Clippers both remain winless ever since the news broke.

Interestingly enough, both the Lakers and Clippers were set to head on road trips right after the announcement. Each LA team played two away games, both of which they lost.

The Lakers had a tough Eastern Conference swing, playing at Milwaukee and Boston. While neither game was set to be a cakewalk, not even LeBron James' return for the Celtics game prevented them from taking consecutive losses.

The Clippers had an easier slate, playing at Memphis and New Orleans. However, they ended up losing double-digits to both squads despite being red-hot winners of eight of their last nine games prior to entering those two contests.

The question remains – will the Lakers or Clippers ever win again? We'll just have to wait and see.
