Anthony Davis and his Los Angeles Lakers teammate, Kyle Kuzma, demanded justice for Jacob Blake and expressed their support for the NBA players' decision to boycott the three playoff games scheduled on Wednesday night.

“We want justice for Jacob Blake,” Davis said. “The good thing is that he is stable and survived but … it's unacceptable…We're continuing to talk and try to find justice for him and everyone else whose been a victim. For us, it's continuing to push the envelope  on every situation on social justice, and it doesn't stop.”

Jacob Blake is the unarmed African American man who was shot multiple times by police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Sunday as he approached his car. He is currently paralyzed from the waist down at a hospital in Milwaukee. The shooting came almost exactly three months after Minneapolis police killed George Floyd.

For his part, Kuzma addressed the media and reflected on the racism that remains persistent in American society.

“Such a terrible situation that we're going through in this country, still, after so many years of this,” the Lakers youngster added. “For a man to get shot seven times by cops, unarmed, in front of his kids, that his kids will probably remember the rest of their lives—that's scary. Not only for me but every African-American, every minority in this country. It's something that we need to continue to work on as a society to change.”

Earlier in the day, Lakers star LeBron James also vented his frustration after yet another instance of police brutality against an unarmed Black person.

Team owner and CEO Jeanie Buss also stated her support for Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma and the rest of Lakers in their call for action.

The NBA players and coaches have a meeting set on Wednesday night to discuss the next steps in their protest against racial injustice and police brutality in the U.S. While the future of the league is in doubt, players acknowledge that basketball takes a back seat in what they are fighting for.
