When Carmelo Anthony was waived by the Chicago Bulls after being traded from the Houston Rockets back in January, the general consensus was that Anthony would eventually join LeBron James with the Los Angeles Lakers.
However, we are over a month into the situation, and Anthony remains on the free-agent market after reportedly putting talks with the Lakers on hold due to their recent struggles.
So, will he play this season at all?
BetOnline.ag has released odds on whether or not the Lakers will sign Anthony before the playoffs, putting the chances of him doing so at +300. The odds are at -500 for him not signing with them.
Los Angeles is in the midst of a tumultuous season that may very well end up without a playoff appearance. The Lakers are 30-33 and 4.5 games behind the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference.
Anthony began the season with the Houston Rockets, playing in 10 games and averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds over 29.4 minutes per game while shooting 40.5 percent from the floor, 32.8 percent from 3-point range and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.
The Rockets then benched the 34-year-old and essentially exiled him, as the experiment was simply not working out.
Anthony is just two years removed from averaging 22.4 points per game and making an All-Star appearance with the New York Knicks. The Knicks then proceeded to trade him to the Oklahoma City Thunder shortly before the 2017-18 campaign began.
The Brooklyn native was very disappointing during his one-year stint with the Thunder, leading to Oklahoma City releasing trading him to the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks promptly waived him.
Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time All-Star, owns career averages of 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while making 44.9 percent of his field goal attempts and 34.7 percent of his triples.
