Kobe Bryant was in the building at Staples Center for his jersey retirement ceremony, giving the current crop of Los Angeles Lakers the chance to get up close and personal with the franchise legend.
Second-year forward Brandon Ingram revealed what the subject of his personal interaction with Kobe was during Bryant's retirement ceremony, and it turned out to be about work and defense.
Per Ryan Ward of Clutch Points:
Brandon Ingram on message from Kobe Bryant: “Just continue to work. I heard him say something about the journey & the process. The way I work is the way I’m going to come out & play.
Brandon Ingram on Kobe Bryant’s message to him: “Like I said before, he really touched on the defensive end, about how I can be a really good defender & how I can just push to another level.”
Ingram is not short on work ethic, and all the hard work he’s put in is finally paying off as he has shown major improvements during his second year in the league. He had another impressive night with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals against the Golden State Warriors, and is averaging 16.3 points and 5.6 rebounds on the season.
But while Ingram has been billed as a Kevin Durant-like scorer, he could be equally as impactful defensively because of his length and athleticism. If he can take Kobe’s message to heart and continue to improve on the defensive end, he’ll take another big step toward becoming the star he has all the potential to be.
