Despite injuries to key contributors and endless speculation leading up to the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 8, the Los Angeles Lakers continue to play well both on the road and at home. The team is coming off their seventh straight win on their home floor of the Staples Center with second-year forward Brandon Ingram stepping up in his new point forward role.

After beating the Phoenix Suns in convincing fashion on Tuesday in Los Angeles, veteran center Brook Lopez talked about the job Ingram has done helping shoulder the load in the backcourt for the injured Lonzo Ball.

“It's been impressive just watching him learn as he goes,” Lopez said of Ingram. “It's been great. The transition has been surprisingly seamless and smooth. He's such a talented player, and he has such an unselfish mentality. I guess when you look at it that way it's not that surprising. He's just done so much for us lately leading us on the floor in that position.”

In the win over the Suns, Ingram had a solid performance scoring 26 points while dishing out five assists, grabbing four rebounds, and blocking two shots on the defensive end of the floor. Ingram has had five or more assists in five of the last six games with a career-high 10 assist performance recently against the Brooklyn Nets.

Along with having more of a facilitator mentality in this new role, Ingram has also passed Kyle Kuzma as the team's leading scorer averaging 15.9 points per game. Although the Duke product can be streaky at times with his offensive production, it seems as though he and the team seem to be coming into their own as of late with the Lakers only four wins shy of last season's win total (26).
