It was revealed on Saturday that Los Angeles Lakers newly-acquired power forward Channing Frye had an emergency appendectomy surgery done in Cleveland on Friday night and will be re-evaluated in about a week. Via a tweet from Lakers sideline reporter Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet:

“Channing Frye, who missed the last Lakers game, had a successful Laparoscopic Appendectomy in Cleveland last night. He’ll be re-evaluated when he returns to L.A. in about one week,” Trudell reported on Saturday afternoon.

With his widely-known sense of humor, Frye chimed in himself about his appendectomy and joked on Twitter about the removal of his appendix to improve his dunking ability.

Frye was recently traded to the Lakers, along with Isaiah Thomas and a 2018 first-round draft pick, as part of the surprising deal that sent guard Jordan Clarkson and forward Larry Nance Jr. to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although he may not play many minutes in head coach Luke Walton's player rotation, he brings a lot of experience to the team and will definitely help mentor the young Los Angeles squad.

The 34-year-old Frye, who was selected No. 8 overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, played 11 minutes in the Lakers' 139-117 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. He made his one and only shot attempted so far, which was a three-pointer, with Los Angeles since being acquired before the trade deadline from the Cavs.

During his 12 seasons played in the NBA, Frye has averaged 9.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game in roughly 22.8 minutes of action per contest in his career.
