There were two rare sightings inside the Staples Center on Sunday night. Aside from retired legend Kobe Bryant making an appearance, Los Angeles shooting guard Danny Green also threw down a monster dunk against the Atlanta Hawks.

Known best for his defense and three-point shooting, the 32-year-old 3-and-D specialist displayed some rarely seen hops, as he sent the home crowd in frenzy after cleaning up LeBron James’ miss with a one-handed put-back dunk before halftime.

The amazing play sent the entire Laker bench to their feet, while center Dwight Howard had both his hands on his head in disbelief. His hustle even earned some applause from Bryant who was sitting courtside.

In a clip from reporter Mike Medina shortly after the game, Green admitted that he kind of “blacked out” during the remarkable sequence and made it clear that he was simply at the right place at the right time.

“ It was good timing. Got lucky. Sometimes you get lucky,” he said.

Green was one of seven Lakers who finished in double figures, notching 11 points on an efficient 4-of-7 from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point territory.

One of the most sough-after swingman in free agency, the two-time NBA champion elected to join the Lakers in the offseason after winning a title with the Toronto Raptors last year.

Green is currently second in the Lakers in three-point shooting behind Jared Dudley, connecting on 42.2 percent of his attempts. He also leads the team in steals, notching 1.4 per game.
