The highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 Michael Jordan-starred film Space Jam doesn't even have an official release date yet (word is it's going to hit theaters this summer), and already the hype has been non-stop. Space Jam 2 will star Los Angeles Lakers stud LeBron James, and according to the film's director, Terence Nance, the sequel is going to be nothing short of amazing.
“Pretty sure [it's] going to disrupt everything,” Nance told Taylor Hosking of Vice. “I’m excited about what […] that movie can be.”
Nance continued to talk up the upcoming animated picture:
“Space Jam is a very unique opportunity because LeBron James is the best basketball player on Earth and a once in a generation performer,” Nance added. “Whoever the greatest basketball player of the next generation is going to be, they are probably not going to also be a great actor. Growing up being an animator, someone who loves to draw, I’m just super enthused to work in the cannon, learning in a more deep way about it, bringing what I bring from a media innovation standpoint.”
We can't wait to watch the film, and this has the makings of being one of the biggest movies of the year — especially for basketball fans.
In the meantime, however, LeBron will need to keep his focus on basketball.
The 34-year-old has been out of action for the past two weeks due to a lingering groin injury. The Lakers have struggled without their alpha dog, losing five out of the seven games since James' injury. LeBron James is expected to be out a bit longer, and once he gets back on the court, he will definitely have his work cut out form him for the struggling Lakers.
