When Los Angeles Lakers superstar big man Anthony Davis fell hard to the floor on Tuesday against the New York Knicks, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel and everyone in Los Angeles held their breaths.

At first, it looked like Davis had suffered a serious back injury. However, tests showed that Davis sustained a bruised gluteus maximus and everyone inside the Lakers organization breathed a sigh of relief:

It doesn't appear that Anthony Davis is going to miss too much time with this injury. Since the Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference, Frank Vogel and his staff can be cautious with Davis.

In his first season with the Lakers, Davis has been a monster on both ends of the court. He’s averaging 27.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks while shooting 50.4 percent from the field, 29.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Kyle Kuzma, whose name has come up in trade rumors lately, is putting up 12.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for the Lakers in 28 contests. He will start against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday if Davis is out. The swingman is shooting 42.5 percent from the floor, 34.6 percent from the 3-point line and 74.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Kuzma’s future with the Lakers has been in question ever since his trainer called out LeBron James. We’ll see if the Lakers end up making a deal involving Kuzma, who is still on his rookie contract. He’s making $1.9 million this season.
