Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel is apparently an optimist. The first-year Lakers head coach recently told reporters that veteran center DeMarcus Cousins could still potentially return to Los Angeles this season despite suffering what initially appeared to be a season-ending leg injury earlier in the year.

Although everyone and their mother originally believed that Cousins' first year as a member of the once heralded Lakers ended before it even began, Vogel refuses to rule out such a possibility.

“Frank Vogel won't rule out the possibility of DeMarcus Cousins returning at some point this season,” writes Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. “Vogel said the Lakers aren't “closing the door” on Cousins perhaps being able to return for the playoffs.”

Previously diagnosed with a torn ACL, Cousins signed with the Lakers this past offseason after suiting up for the Golden State Warriors in 2018-19. Initially seeking a max contract upon departing from the New Orleans Pelicans a season ago, Cousins has since continued to sign short term deals as he simply cannot shake the injury bug that has plagued him for the past three seasons. Prior to tearing a ligament in his left knee, Cousins notably suffered a torn Achilles, which negatively impacted both his 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns.

Thanks to his lingering injury troubles, Cousins first signed a one-year, $5.3 million contract with the aforementioned Warriors before inking another one-year deal with the Lakers, a pact worth just $3.5 million.

Also suiting up for the Sacramento Kings to begin his NBA tenure, Cousins is currently averaging 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game for his career.
