Los Angeles Lakers center JaVale McGee will continue to miss games for the team as he is still battling an unspecified illness, per Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum SportsNet.

Saturday's matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers marks the second straight game that McGee will miss. The seven-footer has reportedly not eaten in two days due to the illness. However, according to Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, via ESPN's Dave Mcmenamin, while McGee is “depleted,” the big man is progressing and should be able to play once the team gets back to Los Angeles on Tuesday.

At 32 years old, McGee is still making an impact as the starting center for the Lakers. In only 17.0 minutes per game, the 12-year veteran is averaging 7.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks while shooting 64.7 percent from the field.

McGee has been a major part of the success of a Lakers squad that, at 36-9, is atop the Western Conference standings and holds the second-best record in the league behind the Milwaukee Bucks.

The veteran center joined Los Angeles in the 2018 offseason after spending his previous two seasons with the Golden State Warriors. This offseason, McGee agreed to a two-year deal worth $8.2 million to stay with the Lakers.

In the first game McGee missed, the Lakers would end up defeating the Brooklyn Nets, 128-113. As the only other healthy true center on the roster, fellow veteran big man Dwight Howard would step in with McGee out.

In 23 minutes against Brooklyn, Howard posted 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while shooting 7-of-10 from the field.
