Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss finally broke her silence regarding the resignation of Magic Johnson as the team's President of Basketball Operations.

In an interview with ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk during the NBA Awards show, Buss admitted that she needed time to process Johnson's sudden departure. She added that she was surprised when the Purple and Gold legend quit without consulting her or anybody in the franchise.

“There really wasn't anything to say. I think that when Magic decided that he didn't want to be with the organization any longer in an official capacity, that took me off guard,” Buss explained. “So I needed time to figure out what the process was going to be. That's all. Just taking care of business and looking out after the organization.”

Johnson announced that he was leaving the Lakers back on April 9, minutes before the team's final regular season game. The NBA Hall of Famer and business mogul later admitted that the reason behind his resignation was the backstabbing from within the organization, naming general manager Rob Pelinka as one of the people who talked behind his back.

Jeanie. however, doesn't seem to have any idea of what was going on between Magic and Ro.

“It was a surprise when Magic turned in his resignation” Jeanie added. “I didn't see that coming. But everything else has been pretty much as any organization moves forward and changes going into a new season. So as much as has been speculated as to what the Lakers are doing, to me we are in a really good place and we are following our path, and our plan, going into the next season.”

It has been more than two months since the Johnson's sudden departure and both parties seem to have moved on. Magic is back with his business ventures while the Lakers are back bringing in superstars. At the end of the day, both Buss and Johnson wanted the same thing: for the Purple and Gold to win a championship.
