Even though the NBA playoffs are still in full swing, fans can't help but look at next season's free agents as they envision their teams landing a superstar. Los Angeles Lakers legend Mychal Thompson was forced to dodge some awkward inquisitions when questions over where his son, Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson, would sign next season arose on twitter.

Mychal Thompson quickly shut down rumors, claiming Klay is locked into the playoffs. However, he did have time for a quick shout out to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Thompson is dead on with his assessment. The Clippers are no longer underestimated as a franchise, and they might have some real pull this offseason. Stars that once eyed the Los Angeles Lakers might reconsider after seeing how much heart and grit the Clips play with in the first round against the Warriors.

It has been long rumored that Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard viewed the Clips as a potential landing spot. If he decides to head to L.A., it makes the Clippers an instant contender.

Landing Leonard could open doors to signing another top free agent. It would be scary for NBA teams to envision a Clippers squad starting Leonard and Klay Thompson and having Lou Williams torch teams off the bench.

Regardless of where Klay ends up, the Clippers have set themselves up for success for some years to come. It would be a surprise if they don't make a major free agent signing eventually. Stay tuned this offseason to see if they pull the trigger on a big name.
