Kobe Bryant says basketball shouldn’t be the best thing he does in life
With all his achievements and the illustrious career he’s had, it’s very easy to think that being a basketball player was the best thing Kobe Bryant has done in his life so far. A five-time champion, former MVP, and 18-time All-Star, it has helped the Los Angeles Lakers great be widely regarded as one of the best players to ever play the game. However, 39-year-old recently made it known that his playing days shouldn’t be the area where he excels the most in his life.
During an interview with Complex, together with Kendrick Lamar, the Lakers legend discussed how he thinks his playing career went, and also his plans for the future. Bryant then shared some stories on when he decided he wants to be the best at what he’s doing, which happened in his early days in the NBA.
“Fast forward 20 years from now: If basketball is the most important thing I’ve done in my life, then I’ve failed. It’s a very simple mission, very simple quest, very simple goal. These next 20 years need to be better than the previous 20.”
Kobe Bryant spent 20 years in the league, and retired after the 2015-16 season. He is now a businessman, being the CEO of his own company, which has made different ventures over the past couple of years. The former two-time Finals MVP is also busy with his family, documenting the times he spends with his wife and three beautiful daughters in his social media accounts.
Even if his professional playing days are now over, Kobe Bryant is clearly bringing the same mentality that has made him a very good basketball player to his new career. After showing greatness for two decades in the NBA, it will be hard to imagine him not being able replicate the success he’s had in being a family man and as his company’s head honcho, as he looks to further strengthen his already strong legacy.
