According to Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma, the team never wanted to part ways with Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart this offseason. However, the opportunity to acquire a generational talent in Anthony Davis is too hard to pass up.

“Really, they told all of us. They didn't want to trade none of us, obviously,” Kuzma told Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. “We were a great young group of guys that had a lot of promise. Anytime you got three, four young guys as a core in the NBA, you don't want to trade those guys. But you have an opportunity to get a generational talent, stuff is bound to happen.”

The Lakers had an interesting set of youngsters that consisted of Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Kyle Kuzma himself. But in a span of two years, only Kuz has remained. With the exception of Randle — who they allowed to walk away last summer — the Purple and Gold traded everyone else.

In exchange though, the team landed two of the top talents in the NBA in LeBron James and AD.

The Lakers were never really known for slow rebuilds. Although they have tried to rebuild through the draft, acquiring or trading for a superstar is what has been truly effective for the franchise. It is one of the reasons why they have 16 NBA championships.
