A recent losing skid has put the Los Angeles Lakers in a precarious position, now boasting a higher chance to select the prized would-be selection Zion Williamson with the No. 1 overall pick than making the playoffs, according to BetOnline.ag.
The Lakers have a 1 percent chance to draft a transformational talent like Williamson, a slim one, but not as slim as their chances of playing at least four extra games at the end of the season:

The Lakers already had a thin margin of error, but that has been made even smaller, going from a 6 percent chance after the All-Star break to a haunting less-than-1-percent chance after losing to their hallway rivals, the LA Clippers, who sit in the No. 7 spot in the West.
Williamson would surely represent the long-term answer the Lakers would look for after LeBron James retires, but there are clearly much better suitors to make Williamson the future of their franchise.
Teams finishing just shy of the playoffs garner a pick in the top 14 of the draft (unless their first-rounder has been the result of a trade with another team), but given Williamson's unified prospect as the top overall pick, that is merely wishful thinking for the Lakers, who have surely hit rock bottom in the past month.
