The Los Angeles Lakers were in a deep hole entering Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. They had a nine-game losing streak going and have also tied their longest home losing streak as they have not won inside Staples Center in their past nine games.

Right from the start of the contest though, the team showed their opponents that they were focused on ending both streaks on the night. The Lakers ultimately blew them out, 132-113, behind a season-high 16 3-pointers and couldn’t have asked for anything more from their players as eight of them finished with double figures, seven of them with at least one made field goal from beyond the arc.

That is exactly what the doctor ordered for the Purple and Gold as the extended losing streak has dropped them to dead last in the Western Conference and now have the third worst record in the NBA with a 12-27 win-loss slate. However, their breakout game on Sunday has given them a lot of momentum which they can use in their upcoming games. With two more games to be played in their home court before embarking on a three-game road trip, they will have a good chance to string a few wins together.

Even with the young core that they have, expectations were already high on them to start the season as they were able to add two good rookies in the draft and a few key pieces to their roster. Now that they are not enjoying a lot of success in the season so far, each win is an important one as it could boost their morale. It could also be considered learning moments for them especially the good performance they had, and should serve as motivation for them to replicate in order to have a respectable record.
