With even the great Michael Jordan himself once asking P.J. Tucker how he was able to get his hands on a very limited pair of Air Jordan's, Tucker is considered by many as the king of the sneaker game in the league. However, new Los Angeles Lakers recruit Lance Stephenson appears to have the throne in his sights.

Speaking to Scott Agness of The Athletic, Stephenson shared how he was disappointed about Tucker being voted by their peers as the winner of the Sneaker Champ Award. Stephenson also described his excitement about the league's recent rule revision on in-game sneaker restrictions. According to the 28-year-old Laker, this rule change will definitely work in his favor as he guns for Tucker's crown.

“Aw man, I’m going to tear it up,” said an animated Stephenson, who rarely wore the same pair of shoes twice in a game last season. “When I seen that, I was like, ‘Yo, it’s going down this year.’ So I’m definitely going for P.J. Tucker for this year.”

Stephenson went on to say that he feels that Tucker has an unfair advantage over him. Stephenson said that unlike himself, Tucker literally has his rare kicks handed to him.

“Yeah, but he be cheating, man. They be giving him sneakers. See, I go hard for my sneakers. I go pick them out and stuff. They give him sneakers and that’s not fair. I’m just going after him this year.”

With the league now removing its color restrictions on players' in-game sneakers, it's going to be a very colorful year for sneakerheads. Stephenson is obviously pumped about it, and we're all excited to see what he can bring to the table next season — both in the basketball and sneaker game aspects.
