The Los Angeles Lakers suffered one of, if not the worst loss of their entire season on Thursday against their cross-town rivals in the LA Clippers. I say this with a bit of hesitation given how many gut-wrenching defeats this squad has been subjected to throughout the course of the season. The blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier in the season comes to mind, among others, but to lose to the Clippers the way they did on Thursday definitely makes for a strong case.

ESPN's Stephen A Smith has shared his thoughts on the Lakers' 132-111 defeat and the renowned broadcaster started his tirade by saying that the Lakers made him want to throw up. He was watching the game live inside Crypto.com Arena too, and according to Smith, this was the general sentiment of Lakers fans in the building.

Smith then turned his attention to LeBron James, who himself had some controversial comments about the Clippers after the game. According to a dejected LeBron, the Clippers were “the better team.” Thursday marked the Clippers' seventh consecutive loss to the Lakers, dating back to last season, which in a way, justifies James' remarks. However, it did not sit well at all with Stephen A. at all:

“For the first time in the history of the Los Angeles Lakers, we heard a Laker say the Clippers were a better team,” Smith said on Friday's episode of First Take. ” … I challenge anaybody to find me a Los Angeles Laker in history that said, ‘Well the Clippers are just the better team.' Not only did we hear that from [Thursday] night. We heard that from the second greatest player in the history of basketball, as far as I'm concerned, in Mr. LeBron James.”

If you really think about it, LeBron's statement is actually accurate. However, Smith takes issue with the fact that a player from the Lakers had the gall to say this about their bitter rivals in the Clippers — even more so, LeBron James. Stephen A. is adamant that no Laker in the history of its storied franchise has ever uttered these words and that LeBron's comments here pretty much go against everything the Lakers stand for.

Smith then took a shot at LeBron's body language and how it sometimes feels like as a leader, he's already given up on his squad. For Stephen A., however, James' level of frustration is understandable considering how bad this team has been this season:

“I know there's some culpability that he has because of this roster that was assembled but I'm not going to hold him accountable for what I see him doing on the court outside of his body language,” Stephen A continued. “There's a level of frustration here that as a humang being you can only say, ‘Hey, listen, he's human.' Because you dammit can't help if he's frustrated. I mean this is what happens when your stomach is churning and you're about to throw up because that was what the hell was happening with the Los Angeles Lakers [on Thursday] night. Ladies and gentlemen, it is bad. It is an embarrassment.”

As Smith said, though, you can't fault LeBron for his basketball. The four-time NBA champ is playing at an elite level right now and he's putting up some mind-blowing numbers. This only makes it worse for the Lakers as they waste away one of the best seasons in the career of the great LeBron James.
