Los Angeles Lakers fans collectively held their breaths when superstar LeBron James had an injury scare during opening night against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday.

The King had to leave the game in the fourth quarter after spraining his ankle in an attempt to block Ivica Zubac's shot.

As seen in the replays, James left his feet a tad too early and was caught by the Clippers center's pump fake. The Lakers forward collided with Zubac's back and landed awkwardly on his right foot, causing him immediate discomfort.

LeBron James left the game at that point and did not return. The Clippers were up at the time and cruised to a 116-109 victory over their bitter rivals. The four-time NBA MVP had 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field and 3-of-8 from deep, along with five rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes of action.

His injury does not appear serious, but head coach Frank Vogel likely kept him out for the remainder of the match just to keep it safe. The Lakers, meanwhile, had no answer for Paul George, who torched them for 33 points right after they received their 2020 championship rings.

The Clippers' other superstar, Kawhi Leonard, was also a problem after a 26-point outing.

The reigning champs looked off rhythm from the start, allowing the Clips to race to a 22-point lead at one point. They did make a comeback in the second half but could not complete the effort with LeBron on the sidelines. Anthony Davis pitched in 18 points for the Lakers, followed by Montrezl Harrell and Kyle Kuzma who had 17 and 15, respectively.

The Lakers nation now have their fingers crossed for LeBron's status and are hoping he could play on Christmas Day against the Dallas Mavericks.
