Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James continues his commitment to the city of Akron, as his foundation's I Promise Village is getting ready to move in 330 ambassadors and students.

The I Promise Village is done in partnership with Graduate Hotels. As noted on the foundation's website, the village is located just a few blocks away from the I Promise School.

In a statement, LeBron pointed out that shelter is as important as providing kids with good education.

“Initially, our work was focused on helping these kids earn an education. But we’ve found that it is impossible to help them learn if they are struggling to survive – if they are hungry, if they have no heat in the freezing winter, if they live in fear for their safety,” the Lakers star shared.

As noted, the units will provide immediate shelter for those in need. James' foundation intends to help less-privileged families “with a long-term plan for their future success.”

Michelle Campbell, Executive Director of the LeBron James Family Foundation, echoed the sentiments of the Lakers forward with regard to the I Promise Village. According to her, giving them the proper education is just part of their equation.

“This is about more than just getting kids to school. This is about keeping them alive. We’re seeing families struggling every day with very real and often times unexpected issues that turn their worlds upside down. This will allow the family time and opportunities to grow while not worrying if they’ll have a roof over their head,” Campbell shared

To recall, LeBron James opened the I Promise School in 2018 and is specifically aimed for at-risk children. It has been a huge success, though it is only expected to be fully operational by 2022.

Now, it sure looks like the hometown hero is not yet done in improving the lives of the people in his beloved community.
