Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is reportedly on track to win his fifth MVP award if he manages to sustain his momentum by the end of the regular season. ESPN held a mock MVP voting in order to gauge where the race is currently at, at this stage of the season.

A mix between national and international reporters comprised the voters who represented each of the league's 28 markets. The mock poll followed the standard scoring system of the actual ballot and was tabulated with the following: 10 points for each first-place vote, seven for second-place, five for third, three for fourth, and one for fifth.

The results came out with LeBron James leading the pack with 53 first-place votes en route to a total of 760 points. Closely trailing behind him by a margin of 95 points is Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid who received 23 first-place votes to record 665 votes. Meanwhile, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is also making a case for himself as he generated 18 first-place votes to account for 596 total votes.

Moreover, Kevin Durant also nabbed three first-place votes followed by Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Stephen Curry with a single first-place vote apiece.

LeBron James garnering a bevy of first-place votes while playing in his 18th season in the league didn't come off as a surprise to many anymore. The Lakers superstar appeared in all 25 games this season and is averaging norms of 25.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.0 assists.

After placing second behind Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo in the MVP voting last season, LeBron James will certainly be eager to secure the award this time around, all while leading his team to their second straight title.
