Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James and his Family Foundation will team up with the XQ Institute and the Entertainment Institute Foundation in order to air a special presentation honoring and celebrating the high school graduates of 2020.

The special, called “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020,” will connect graduating high-school students nationwide to present a celebration amid the social-distancing reality of this spring. The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented a traditional end of secondary education to schools in the U.S. and all over the world.

Per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

The special, which will feature James, Nobel prize winner Malala Yousafzai, soccer star Megan Rapinoe, and musical acts Bad Bunny, the Jonas Brothers, Pharrell Williams and others will be simulcast across ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC as well as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok and other streaming services.

“It's been a hard few months for all of us, but I especially really feel for the senior class of 2020,” the Laker star said Wednesday in a quote provided to ESPN. “The end of high school and graduation was one of the best memories of my life. It's not fair. Every graduating senior needs to know how much we feel for them and hopefully this can help, even a little. This class is going to be special because they know in a real way how to persevere.”

James' Family Foundation opened the I Promise public school in 2018 in Akron, Ohio, as the Lakers star was joining the west coast team. The three-time NBA champion's commitment to education in the U.S. is going beyond in 2020, though, as he tries to connect millions of high school graduates via online platforms and television broadcasts.

U.S. students and teachers have seen their world turn upside down as the final months of their secondary education moved to web learning to avoid contact during the coronavirus public-health crisis.

LeBron James is helping celebrate the traditional milestone in many people's lives by providing entertainment to celebrate high school graduation.
