It has been quite a while since a team led by LeBron James failed to make the playoffs. In fact, The King had made it to the postseason in all but his first two campaigns in the NBA. This season, however, James and the Lakers have been eliminated from contention.

For the past eight seasons, James made it all the way to the NBA Finals — a truly remarkable stretch of consistency. In those appearances, the Akron native won three championships.

For some players in the league, the offseason is a time for vacation. For James, it's about maintaining his body — a mantra he has kept throughout his entire career. This offseason is a bit different for James, though, as he'll have a few extra weeks to train and be with family. In years past, he was playing into the summer.

In an interview with Joe Vardon of The Athletic, James revealed some of his plans for this offseason. He's not happy about how this season went for the Lakers, but he says he's going to use it as motivation:

“I like being uncomfortable in the offseason,” James said. “I like being counted out. It motivates me.

“I’ve had basically the same offseason training regimen the last eight years,” LeBron added. “I knew how long I wanted to rest for the season on a short timeline. I’m figuring out now how to get as much as I can out of two months of extra time for training. It requires a totally different strategy. We’re looking at it in an entirely new way.”

According to Vardon, James and his personal trainer, Mike Mancias, have already mapped out their offseason workout regime:

“My basketball plans, they’re damn near set,” James said.

Let's see if James and the Lakers have a better showing next season.
