We're far too late into the season to still be giving weight to any moral victories. But if any team in the Western Conference needed one, it was Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James and Co. may not have come out of Golden State with the win, but the Lakers did match Stephen Curry and the Warriors step for step up until the final buzzer.

King James felt the same way. The Lakers star was vocal after the game on liking what he saw from his club throughout the contest:

“I feel like we were connected from the very first jump ball,” said LeBron. “Obviously, the result is a lot different than we would like, but I feel like that's as collected as we've been in quite a while.”

The deficit in the game stayed within single digits throughout the second half, with the Lakers even holding the lead with under two minutes left in the game. But a couple of big plays from the Warriors and LeBron's missed free throw sealed the victory for the home team:

“This is the second-best team in the Western Conference,” the Lakers star said of their opponent. “One of the best teams in the league. They've shown that all season. But I love our fight. I love what we brought to the table tonight. If we can continue that for the second half of the season, we'll be in a really good position.”

Despite the encouraging play, Los Angeles still took a loss in the standings on Saturday night. But there's reason for optimism if they can carry over some of the momentum they built against the Warriors.
