Back in August, LeBron James’ “Uninterrupted” released a brief video showing him strutting out in a blue and orange sunspot colored Tune Squad jersey. It’s a new take on the white jersey with the “Looney Tunes” logo worn by Michael Jordan in the 1996 original “Space Jam.”

However, due to COVID-29, the highly anticipated sequel will not hit the big screen—instead, it will be released on the small screen.

Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro reported WarnerMedia will release all of its films to HBO Max in accordance with theatrical releases. The films can be seen on HBO Max within one-month windows.

The film will be directed by “Girls Trip” director Malcolm D. Lee. His other credits include “Night School” and “Barbershop: The Final Cut.”

“Space Jam: A New Legacy” will feature LeBron James teaming up with the Looney Tunes as they once again need to play a game of basketball against a team of intergalactic invaders who wish to enslave them. And just as the original featured a string of basketball royalty, the sequel will team up James with stars Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike.

“Space Jam: A New Legacy” is expected to make its debut on July 16, 2021.
