LeBron James will have the first opportunity to play in front of his new home crowd at Staples Center as the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Houston Rockets on Oct. 20, the NBA announced Wednesday.

James will get his first taste of a full NBA schedule loaded with Western Conference teams, starting with the Blazers on the road on Oct. 18 and then soon after facing another title hopeful in the Rockets.

The Rockets were a win away from meeting James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals last season, but they lost the last two games against the Golden State Warriors, cutting the dream short of a reality.

This time around, James will have some early exposure of what it's like to play some of the top teams on a weekly basis, while trying to mesh with his new teammates.
