Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball had nothing but praises for Magic Johnson, thanking the legendary guard for helping him in his first two seasons in the league.

According to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints, Ball called Johnson the best point guard to have ever played in the NBA. The young playmaker added that being watched over by Johnson over the past two years was a great experience for him. He pointed out that the Hall of Famer was always willing to help him throughout his first two seasons.

Johnson was the one who selected Ball as the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft behind Markelle Fultz. He was selected ahead of Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Phoenix Suns forward Josh Jackson, and Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox.

While it was not directly mentioned, Johnson virtually selected Ball as their point guard of the future over D'Angelo Russell. Russell was selected second overall by the Lakers during the 2015 NBA Draft but was traded to the Brooklyn Nets when Johnson took over as president.

But after two years at the helm in Los Angeles, Johnson shocked the franchise with his decision to step down as president. The basketball icon called for an impromptu press conference, where he revealed that he is no longer happy with his current job.

The announcement came before the Lakers' season finale against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night. It remains to be seen how the Lakers will move forward with general manager Rob Pelinka running the show for them. Pelinka will stay as GM, while the fate of head coach Luke Walton is still up in the air.
