A day prior to the start of the 2020-2021 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers remain as the heavy favorites to win the title. Bettors continue to put their trust in the dangerous duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis to deliver a win on their hefty bets by the season.

Via David Purdum of ESPN:

“The two largest bets placed on William Hill's odds to win the championship are both on the Lakers: $20,000 at +300 to win a net $60,000, and $10,000 at +250 to win a net $25,000.”

The Purple and Gold are priced +275 odds as the title favorites in 2020-2021 at United States sportsbooks, followed by a three-way tie between the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Brooklyn Nets with +600 apiece.

Moreover, the Lakers snagged 57% of all the total bets placed to win the championship at Caesars Sportsbook which is more than the total tally of the next five teams combined. On the other end, their hallway rivals in the Clippers only accounted for 1% of the total bets to win the title in the upcoming season.

Lastly, the Lakers are also 20-1 on their chances of not making it to the playoffs, which translates that they are almost certain to enter the postseason in the eyes of sportsbooks — and the betting public.

LeBron James and the rest of the Lakers will not only defend their title in order to prove their mettle as the reigning champions but also to repay their bettors' trust and allow them to cash out with a huge sum of money by the end of the 2020-2021 season.
