The Los Angeles Lakers are on a five-game winning streak after their comeback win Saturday night against the San Antonio Spurs. There is a stat out there about this Lakers team having one of the best records in the NBA since a point in January.

Not many expected winning at this level from the baby Lakers, but crazier things have happened. Like the team's record during the road trip that just ended against the Spurs.

It turns out that the Lakers going 4-0 on this road trip was the first time since the 2008-09 season, per Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times. They went 6-0 that year on a road trip.

That year, the Lakers won the NBA championship against Dwight Howard's Orlando Magic. That says a lot about how long ago it was that the Lakers had that good of a road trip.

It also says a lot about how well the Lakers are playing lately. Other than that three-game losing streak before the All-Star break, the Lakers have been one of the best teams in the league for the last few weeks. Granted, some of the teams they have played aren't that good, but good teams beat the teams they should beat.

The Lakers are 6.5 games back in the loss column of the Denver Nuggets for eighth place in the Western Conference playoff race with 20 games left. That's probably too many games to make up for Los Angeles to reach the playoffs.

But in order to be a .500 team, the Lakers only need to go 13-7, which is not inconceivable anymore. That would be quite an accomplishment for a team that is this young and is coached by someone with only two years of head coaching experience.

With just a few more tweaks, the Lakers can be a force to be reckoned with much sooner than originally thought.
