The entire NBA community is still reeling from the shockingly sudden death of Kobe Bryant. Everyone across the league expressed their condolences for the Los Angeles Lakers legend through various available media.
Lower Merion High School, his alma mater where he played amateur hoops, also shared their condolences to the Bryant family by releasing a statement honoring the life of Kobe Bean Bryant.
CNBC's Jabari Young got a copy of the statement, and it's as every bit as painful for Kobe Bryant fans.
“The Lower Merion School District Community is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of one of our most illustrious alumni, Kobe Bryant,” the statement read. “Gregg Downer coached coached Mr. Bryant from 1992 to 1996. Mr. Bryant led the team to the 1998 State Championship. Downer said that he is completely shocked and devastated by this news adding, ‘Aces Nation has lost its heartbeat.'”
“The entire Lower Merion School District sends its deepest condolences to Mr. Bryant's family. Our basketball teams will no doubt pay tribute to Mr. Byrant as this season continues, but at this time, as a District, we will concentrate on supporting those in out community — including Coach Downer and English teacher Jeanne Mastriano — whom Mr. Bryant credited for sparking his love of writing.”
During Bryant's senior year at Lower Merion, he averaged 30.8 points, 12 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 4.0 steals, and 3.8 blocks a game. He managed to successfully translate his skills to the league, where he had 20 successful years with the Purple and Gold, winning Larry O'Brien trophies along the way. After leaving the league, he's focused on creating award-winning films and helping athletes shape up through the Mamba Sports Academy.
Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash at the age of 41 alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gigi. He is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and his three daughters: Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.
