Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson knows a thing or two about what it takes to own and run a team. Magic has ownership stakes in both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Sparks, after all. Alex Rodriguez recently went 50/50 on a purchase of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Johnson hopped on Twitter for his response to the news.

Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore, the former President and CEO of Walmart, bought the Timberwolves for a reported $1.5 billion. It was reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic that it will be a 50/50 purchase between the two sides for Minnesota's NBA squad.

The former Lakers great has seen great successes in his time as an owner. Most notably, Magic Johnson was in attendance when his Dodgers won the World Series last year over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rodriguez is taking over a franchise that has struggled to the max for over a decade now; the complete opposite of Johnson's Lakers. While Minnesota appears to have two legitimate franchise pillars in Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, it's a team that has made one playoff appearance (2017-18) since 2003-04. We aren't talking playoff wins or series wins. The total number of times they have merely made the postseason is one since 2003-04.

Compare that to Johnson's Lakers, who had a dry spell themselves from 2013-2018 but still won three titles during that span.

The hope for Minnesota fans is that the purchase by Rodriguez and Lore injects life and optimism into the organization while providing them with a solid plan and blueprint moving forward into the future. Who knows, maybe someday we will get Johnson's Lakers against A-Rod's Timberwolves in a Western Conference Finals?
