Some Los Angeles Lakers fans are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that LeBron James will be donning the purple and gold this season. The polarizing superstar will spend the next four years in Los Angeles so Lakers fans will have to get used to him.

Showtime Laker Mychal Thompson may know why it's taking some time for Lakers fans to warm up to King James. According to Scott Cacciola of the New York Times, Thompson thinks there is a feeling of jealousy among some Laker fans—specifically Kobe Bryant fans. Cacciola writes:

“Thompson was less understanding about the anti-LeBron sentiment in at least one corner of the Lakers fan base. That segment, Thompson said, seems to be afraid that James is supplanting Bryant on the list of all-time greats — assuming, of course, that he has not already. Many fans want to preserve Bryant’s legacy as much as possible.”

Of course, it's not unexpected that certain Laker fans remain guarded following James' signing. They've spent years criticizing King James and it has to be weird to pull a complete turnaround and begin praising the superstar.

It's likely that after James brings the team back to relevance, most fans will embrace him. But it's not going to happen immediately.

It's unclear who the greatest Laker of all time is. Kobe fans will swear that it's Bryant and they may see LeBron James as a threat to the Black Mamba's status in Los Angeles. It's weird because Kobe has welcomed James to LA with open arms, but his fan base is having a hard time accepting James.
