Los Angeles Lakers legend and NBA talisman Kobe Bryant tragically passed away in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020. The NBA world continues to mourn his untimely death, as does the NBA 2K video game franchise.

NBA 2K announced on Monday (April 13) that its most recent game, NBA 2K20, would offer multiple challenges on MyTeam in order to honor the legacy and career of the Lakers icon.

Bryant was well-known in his early career – after coming to the NBA directly out of high school – for staggering feats of athleticism and ferocious dunks atop the dome of unsuspecting, lumbering defenders.

As his career progressed, Bryant’s lethal jumper and nearly unprecedented killer instinct on the court led to multiple notable moments. First, the Lakers lifer managed the most recent three-peat in NBA history alongside Shaquille O’Neal from 2000 to 2002.

Once Shaq was ousted (seemingly at Bryant’s behest), the Lakers went on to win back-to-back titles again, this time with Kobe as the sole superstar alongside a still talented supporting cast led by Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom.

Bryant also holds the second-most points scored in a single game when he dropped an astonishing 81 points on the Toronto Raptors on January 22, 2006. The Black Mamba was a +25 in on/off rating and achieved those 81 on 46 shot attempts and 20 free throw attempts, good for a sterling 73.9 percent true shooting percentage.

As the loss of Bryant is likely still fresh and raw for many NBA and Lakers fans, NBA 2K rolling out this legacy-honoring content is a nice move by the company.
