The writing appears to be on the wall for Frank Vogel as the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. That leaves one rather polarizing coaching vacancy to be filled in the offseason.

One name in particular that's been mentioned for the LA job is Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder. According to reports from Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer and NBA insider Marc Stein, the former Lakers assistant is seen as a strong candidate for the role, at least when it comes to interest from the purple and gold side.

As Marc Stein first reported, Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder is perhaps most often mentioned by league figures as a possible Vogel replacement. For now, Snyder remains entrenched in Utah and told Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune: “My focus is on our guys and our team. And as I said, addressing hypotheticals in these types of questions in any form I feel like is disrespectful.”

Yet that hasn’t dispelled the rumblings that Snyder, a Lakers assistant from 2011-12, may be inclined to step away from the Jazz following this season, especially as Utah has taken its own tumble down the Western Conference standings. The Jazz have dropped six of their last seven games. And once again, the microscope among league personnel has shifted back onto the long-term prospects of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert’s partnership.

Quin Snyder has been the man calling the shots for the Jazz in Salt Lake City over the past eight seasons. After two mediocre seasons to begin his tenure, Utah has now rattled off six straight winning seasons, with all resulting in playoff berths, including owning the best record in the NBA for the 2020-21 season.

They've done it without any upper echelon superstars as Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert have buoyed a balanced attack for the Jazz throughout that span. But Snyder has always seemingly been able to do more with less. While the Lakers situation is far from ideal at the moment, imagining what he can do with a superstar like LeBron James at the helm, and however else his supporting cast shapes out to be when the dust settles, could be something to behold.

But it's also apparently far from a done deal as there still remains “skepticism” that a Lakers-Snyder pairing comes to fruition. Aside from the volatility that comes with the Lakers job in general, Quin Synder is said to be a strong candidate for the San Antonio Spurs head coaching job to replace Gregg Popovich.

There is, however, a healthy dose of skepticism around the NBA that Snyder would have interest in a hypothetical Lakers marriage. Snyder would appear to be just as prominent a candidate to one day succeed Popovich in San Antonio, even if Popovich endures on the Spurs’ sideline for the 2022-23 season.

While it's a lot less glamorous than the flashy Lakers job with the spotlight on you at all times, the Spurs opening offers a lot of more stability and likely some additional weight in roster decisions.

Nothing's set in stone just yet, not even Frank Vogel's dismissal, but this likely won't be the last that Quin Snyder's name will be mentioned as the next in line for the Lakers coaching job.
