Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel was reportedly almost fired earlier this season, so it should surprise nobody that he's still on his way out. Things have only gotten worse for the Lakers after the All-Star break as they sit with a 31-47 record, and Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer confirms the obvious: Vogel is expected to be let go after this season.

Barring a miracle, Los Angeles isn't even going to make the play-in tournament, representing a massive organizational failure after coming into the season with championship expectations. This disappointing campaign isn't all on Vogel, with poor personnel decisions (starting with the Russell Westbrook trade) and injuries derailing things, but the head coach has done nothing to halt the slide.

It has been quite the fall from grace for Vogel and the Lakers since winning the title in the bubble. They stumbled into the play-in tournament last season and then lost in the first round to the Phoenix Suns after a thrilling play-in victory over the Golden State Warriors. Big changes were made this past offseason, including the Westbrook trade, but Los Angeles was never able to get going even when mostly healthy.

With Vogel on his way out, attention is already turning to potential candidates to replace him. Fischer brings up names like Quin Snyder, Doc Rivers, Kurt Rambis, Mike Brown and Steve Clifford as possible options, and he notes the possibility of candidates having prior ties to the organization as a likely prerequisite.
