Los Angeles Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo will undergo surgery on his broken right hand and miss three to five weeks, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ohm Youngmisuk.

Rondo suffered the injury during the Lakers' 126-117 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. He fractured his right third metacarpal when he hit his hand on the floor going for a steal:

Rondo didn't score a point but had three assists, two rebounds and two steals in 16 minutes against Portland.

It has been an eventful start to the season for Rondo. The veteran point guard began the campaign as the starter, but then he got into the infamous scuffle with Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul and was suspended three games for his role in the incident, which featured claims of Rondo spitting in Paul's face.

Lonzo Ball took over as the starting point guard and has kept the job, leaving Rondo in a backup role. Rondo is averaging 8.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game this season.

With Rondo set to miss around a month, Ball will likely take on an even larger role. The Lakers could also turn to Alex Caruso as a backup point guard, while Lance Stephenson and Brandon Ingram may see an increase in playmaking responsibilities. And, of course, there's LeBron James.

Los Angeles moved to 8-6 on the season with the victory over Portland.
