In the soap opera that has been the 2018-19 Los Angeles Lakers, perhaps no member of the organization has had as frustrating a season as Rajon Rondo.

Although he has put up numbers that are mostly on par with his last three seasons in the league, Rondo was in the spotlight of a brawl against the Houston Rockets, missed significant time due to injury and has often been cited with LeBron James as one of the Lakers' veterans that has become estranged–so to speak–from the rest of the young core.

However, Rondo told ESPN NBA writer Dave McMenamin that he would like to return to the organization next year:

“Absolutely,” Rondo told ESPN when asked if he wanted to come back to the Lakers next season. “Absolutely. I mean, the only way we can go from here is up.

“So, I don't know what the future holds as far as the summer — if I come back, or who else comes back or if I don't come back. Those things are out of my control. But at the same time, it's a great organization. I can't say enough about the staff and the people who work here. They're really kind and helpful, so I want to continue, if I can, help this organization grow.”

The Lakers will face choices on Rondo as well as JaVale McGee and Lance Stephenson this summer. They cannot afford to retain all three and still hope to make a play for a max contract player.

Still, Rondo mentioned that he is only 33 and has a lot of basketball left in him, while also suggesting that the Lakers are building something positive.
