The death of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant fell heavily on the whole basketball world. Shaquille O'Neal was no different — he took the loss very hard, since he knew Kobe very well.

Kobe and Shaq won three championships together with the Lakers back in the early 2000s. They spent an important part of their lives together, and they succeeded together.

Kobe and Shaq didn't always get along as Lakers teammates, but you could see they were friends after their career. They sat down back in 2018 for a players only interview.

In that interview the iconic Lakers duo went over their entire careers and how they always had respect for one another. The narrative that they hated each other was never true even though they had some disagreements. There is a difference between the extreme characterization and the more complicated one which reflects the actual — and inconvenient — truth of the matter.

Kobe became one of the greatest players of all time in his Lakers career but that wasn't his best accomplishment. He went on to win an Oscar after his playing career but also became one of the best dads we've seen. He channeled his Mamba Mentality into everything he did which allowed him to be great and master anything he would try. He left an example for all the young kids out there to do whatever they wanted to do.

Kobe once said “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great at whatever they want to do.” He definitely accomplished that throughout his life and has inspired the next generation who want to learn from what this Lakers icon did well.

Kobe may be gone but he will never truly be gone as his impact and legacy will live on forever and in a profound way.
