After losing consecutive games for the first time this season, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers bounced back on Saturday after narrowly escaping their archrival Boston Celtics, 96-95.
Sunday offered the Lakers some downtime before the final game of their seven-game road trip against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, and LeBron chose to spend it by watching a classic film.

James capped the night by watching Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 film The Godfather, a film which is considered as one of the greatest of all time and influenced the gangster film genre. This isn’t the first time that The King has seen the highly regarded movie starring the likes of Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and James Caan.
During the 2016 NBA Finals while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, James said he had seen The Godfather six times since the postseason began, which he said helped him settle down. Watching the classic adaptation of the Mario Puzo novel worked out well for him, considering the Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Golden State Warriors for the title.
Against the Celtics, LeBron finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists as the Lakers fended off a late rally led by Jayson Tatum to take home their 15th win of the season against six losses.
It’s no surprise that LeBron James would turn to the film about the Corleone family during the season, as The Godfather deals with themes of power, loyalty, and family which are also things that he deals with as he looks to lead the Lakers to consecutive titles.
