LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Lakers officially have their first win of the 2019-20 NBA season. Frank Vogel's squad was able to make easy work of the visiting Utah Jazz on Friday night with LeBron James coming three rebounds shy of a triple-double, Anthony Davis having a block party in the paint, and Troy Daniels showing his shooting prowess.

Following the win over Mike Conley's Jazz, Vogel had incredibly high praised Daniels. The new Lakers coach believes that Daniels, who went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, is the team's best shooter.

“He's earned a spot in the rotation with his ability to shoot the basketball,” Vogel said of Daniels after the game. “He's arguably the best shooter on the team. He's the kind of player you want put around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He works really hard on the defensive end, so he pulls his own weight on that side of the floor, and when he's out there, he not only brings gravity but when the help comes, he's able to punish defenses, and he did both of those tonight.”

Daniels played 21 minutes off the bench for the Lakers during their home opener at Staples Center and didn't disappoint. The veteran guard finished with 15 points going 5-for-9 from the field while also adding three rebounds and a steal to his stat line.

“I think it's just a shooter's instinct to create space for yourself,” Daniels said.

Although the Jazz were expected to be a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference this season, they have struggled right out of the gate. The retooled Oklahoma City Thunder almost pulled out the win over Utah in their season opener, and tonight they looked outmatched against a Lakers team looking to bounce back with a vengeance following a loss to the L.A. Clippers earlier this week.

The final score, 95-86, doesn't dictate what happened on Friday night. The Lakers were in control for the majority of the contest with LeBron, Davis, and Daniels leading the way.

On Sunday, this revamped Lakers squad will get back to work against the Charlotte Hornets.
