Kawhi Leonard is set to hit free agency at 6:00 p.m. EST this evening and will have a tough decision to make. After winning the NBA Finals with the Toronto Raptors, Leonard is considering multiple free agency options. He has been most interested in the Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers.
All three teams are going to get a chance to shoot their shot at the superstar forward. While there are still a lot of questions about where he might end up, one team may be starting to take the lead to sign him.
According to a report from Chris Broussard of Fox Sports, there are “strong rumblings” that the Lakers are in the lead to sign Leonard.
Leonard to the Lakers would form another super team out West. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are waiting to find out who will be joining them and Leonard would make things nearly unfair.
Golden State has been the team to beat in recent history, but these three would put the Lakers back on the map. It has been awhile since L.A. was considered to be a championship contender. Rob Pelinka and company are motivated to change that this season.
During the 2018-19 season with the Raptors, Leonard ended up averaging 26.6 points per game to go along with 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He had an amazing playoff run, averaging 30.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
Los Angeles was able to clear enough cap space to offer another max contract. Signing Leonard would make them the favorite to win the NBA Finals for the 2019-20 season and would form one of the deadliest “Big Three” tandems that the league has ever seen.
