New Orleans Pelicans superstar big man Anthony Davis has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers for some time now, and the Lakers are reportedly not going to give away picks and their top young players in a trade unless it nets them Davis, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Anthony Davis can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. If the Pelicans have an internal fear that Davis is going to leave the organization, they might trade the former No. 1 overall pick so they don't lose The Brow for nothing in free agency.

“Here’s the line they have to walk: They’re not going to give away picks and their top young players in some deal that makes them incrementally better this season because they have to save all those assets for Anthony Davis, a big trade this summer either pre or post free agency,” Wojnarowski said.

“The absolute dream scenario, people talk about (how) they can trade for Anthony Davis or sign a free agent. The dream scenario is they do both.”

The Lakers' top assets are point guard Lonzo Ball, forwards Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram, and shooting guard Josh Hart. It will likely take three of those players and multiple draft picks to acquire a transcendent player such as Anthony Davis, which is why Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka are holding on to them.

Rumors of Davis to the Lakers have picked up ever since AD signed with agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports before the season started. Paul, of course, represents Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James.
