The issue about the Los Angeles Lakers apparently tampering with Paul George ahead of last February’s trade deadline has been making a number of headlines lately due to its controversial nature. After the NBA released a statement, the ball was passed on to the Lakers in addressing the situation.
Following the league office opening an investigation stemming from the charges filed by the Indiana Pacers, and confirming that it will be focused around Magic Johnson, the organization issued a statement, via Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramon Shelburne of ESPN, letting everyone know that they are cooperating with the NBA, in the hopes of being cleared immediately from the lawsuit.
“As the NBA statement made clear, we cannot comment about the specifics of any ongoing investigation. We can confirm, however, that we are cooperating fully with the NBA in the hope of clearing our name as soon as possible.”

George announced last season that he plans to be a free agent next summer, resulting to the Pacers looking for a way to trade him in order to avoid seeing their then-star leave without getting anything in return. Indiana shocked many when they agreed to send him to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis, as the Thunder weren't among the rumored potential landing spot for Paul George before the deal was struck.
Should the Lakers be found guilty of the charges, they may be forced to give up future draft picks and not be allowed to deal with George’s free agency anymore. More importantly, they could also lose the trust of other big-name free agents moving forward, if their franchise will be stained with that allegation.
