LaVar Ball has promised a lot since bursting onto the scene alongside the rise of his vastly talented son Lonzo. Always outspoken and erratic in his behaviour, LaVar has both delivered and fallen short on all of his promises so far.

In truth, he’s done quite well for himself as he and Lonzo continue to make headlines around the country for both the good and the bad on and off the court.

One of those headlines has been the establishment and running of Balls’ basketball association the JBA (Junior Basketball Association), which aims at keeping talented young high school players in America and giving them a path to the NBA,  instead of them opting to head overseas or opt a different path than college in the hopes of turning professional.

The JBA has undergone criticism since its inception, but even the toughest critic would admit the platform and exposure for young talent in the country can only be a positive thing.

There’s no guarantee the players from the league will make the NBA, but the LaVar has promised another incentive for his players if they don't make it to the big time – a job at Big Baller Brand.

This is an incredible gesture, as Ball is already paying his players $3,000 a month salary and a 60% commission on their jersey sales.

Jerry Vargas, who plays for the Seattle Ballers in the JBA spoke to New York Post’s Jake Nisset  about how turned his back college to play in the JBA, and the promise LaVar made him.

Vargas, and the other 63 league members, bet their futures on a fledging basketball league with no guarentees. Well, except one promise.

Vargas recounted a California training camp, around June 11, when Ball addressed all the players. According to Vargas, the (in)famous loud mouth delivered a lofty vow to anyone who fialed to forge a pro career from the JBA: a job at Big Baller Brand.

It’s a bold promise by Ball, whose reputation seemingly already hangs by a thread at times. It will be interesting to see how this league develops and if Balls’ greatest risk turns out to be his biggest success.
