Saturday night saw one of the ugliest, most brutal scenes in professional sports that you will ever see. A massive brawl broke out in the stands between fans of the hosting Queretaro F.C. and away side Atlas F.C. Videos on social media captured much of the violence that saw people lying on the ground being beaten, kicked, punched and bloodied. Initially, there were reports of fatalities with video shown across the globe of people lying motionless in the stands. According to The Sporting News‘ Simon Berg, the Queretaro State Civil Protection announced there were no fatalities. Yet, accounts from many people in attendance refute that statement, with some openly naming some that have perished in this tragedy.
Liga MX President Mikel Arriola revealed there are going to be some very harsh punishments doled out.

On Sunday, Arriola announced that there will be no more away supporters in any of Liga MX fixtures until further notice. Estadio Corregidora can no longer host any games until proper sanctions are administered. Arriola also did not rule out the possibility of removing Queretaro from Liga MX.
The scene at Estadio Corregidora in Queretaro was unreal and unlike anything most have ever seen. Barriers designed to keep the Queretaro and Atlas fans apart appear to have broken down. That left many scrambling for safety on the pitch. The vast majority of the people seen on the pitch were simply trying escape danger, but danger followed. A full fledged brawl both in the stands and on the pitch caused the suspension of the game in the 63rd minute.
There has been bad blood between these clubs in the past, with clashes between fans in 2007, 2010 and 2013. But this took things to a new level.
