Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift isn't going to take anything in the NFL for granted. The Lions' 2nd round pick in the 2020 NFL draft was adamant that making it to the pro ranks won't change his mind set one bit.
He just recently signed his rookie contract, meaning he can firmly focus on matters on the field. Lions fans should be excited to hear his words about what he's going to bring this season.
Standing in his way in the rotation is fellow RB Kerryon Johnson. But Swift is more than ready to compete for playing time, dare I say excited even.
In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, here's what the Lions' new RB had to say:
“I’ve been competing all my life,” Swift said, via the Detroit Free Press. “Kerryon is a great back, great player. I remember when he was at Auburn, and he was killing us. He’s still doing great in the league. I can’t even give you my role. Whatever role they have for me, I just gotta make sure I’m in the best shape and know all of the plays so I’m ready to take it on full force. But I’m not going in there looking to do anything, just doing what I’ve been doing.”
While the rookie RB was very complimentary of his fellow back, you can just tell that he's not going to settle for second place as much as he can help it. Kerryon Johnson just might have to bring his A-game as early as day 1 of training camp.
The Detroit Lions are going to need all the help they can get this coming season. They won just 3 games last season and are hoping to turn things around sooner rather than later.
Let's hope for their sake, Swift can make an immediate impact.
