Detriot Lions fans are probably still shellshocked with the trade that sent Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks. However, the team immediately set their sights ahead after signing free agent safety Marcus Gilchrist.

Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk confirmed the acquisition. The 30-year-old was a solid contributor for the Oakland Raiders. He wasn't able to find a team at the start of the 2019 season, but his defensive contributions should be able to help the team cover for the production Diggs left behind.

While the decision is final, Smith understood that the decision wasn't a popular one among the players. The corner was named one of the team captains ahead of the season. Moreover, they signed him to a lucrative three-year deal the year last season. They also paid him $6.6 million in fees after the deal was minted. Saying that the trade didn't make sense for the team could be considered by some as an understatement.

Even the man traded was blindsided by the team's decision to ship him off. Seahawks.com's John Boyle reports how he reacted after the trade went down:

“It was surprising. I’m super excited, blessed for the opportunity,” Diggs said. “At the end of the day, God has a plan for me, and this is his plan. It was crazy, I was spending the day with my daughter and girlfriend, and you get news like that, of course it’s major for the family. But it’s work, it’s part of it, and I’m here now, I’m excited. I’m going to miss my guys in Detroit, but I’ve got new relationships I’ve got to build here.”

The Lions defense—and the fans—will terribly miss him as they prepare to face the New York Giants.
