At crunch time, the Toronto Blue Jays are marching towards October with a vengeance. Particularly, they are relying on the power of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to get them to the promised land.
On Friday, that was proven to be the case in a 6-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles, per MLB. Not only did the Blue Jays win, but Guerrero was able to get on base five times throughout the game.
Furthermore, he went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. As a result, the Blue Jays are 85-62 and are ahead of the New York Yankees by three games in the American League East. At this point, Guerrero is batting .301 with 159 hits, 23 home runs, and 79 RBIs.
Last week, Guerrero came through in the clutch against the Yankees.
With the additional win, the Blue Jays' magic number to clinch the division is now 13. Also, Toronto is in the midst of a three-game series against the Orioles. Afterward, they go up against the Tampa Bay Rays, Kansas City Royals, and Boston Red Sox to close out the season.
If Toronto manages to win the division and potentially the World Series, it would be in part due to the exploits of Guerrero.
The Blue Jays don't get to where they are with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Throughout this year, Guerrero Jr. has managed to live up to expectations overall. In April, Guerrero signed a 14-year $500 million contract with the franchise.
Essentially, Toronto went out of its way to ensure that he is the franchise player for more than a decade. Plus, looking to build the team around him to remain in contention. He has led the way with his dominance at the plate and his overall consistency.
Furthermore, Guerrero Jr. has solidified his position as the team leader. He has become more vocal and exuded more confidence in that role.
